This short indie documentary is the story of “pepe” – second-hand clothing that overflows from the US to Haiti. The short is made by filmmakers Shell and Bertozzi. I’ve only seen the trailer so far: it was on sale on etsy, but apparently now it’s sold out. Buh! I wanna see it, it looks great.
Used American clothes play an especially central role in Haiti where, as one peddler reveals, “It’s all pepe, all the time.”
Pepe has not a good influence on the development of a local fashion production inspired by local traditions. It’s just American used clothes, over and over!
