I’m a great fan of craft made with recycled materials, especially if super colorful! A couple of weeks ago I saw a mask like this in my favourite African store in CPH, made out of an empty detergent can and caps.
These masks are realized within the Craft-from-Waste initiative at KEAG, (Kommetjie Environmental Awareness Group) a non profit organization based in South Africa. KEAG runs a number of litter clean-up projects on the Cape Peninsula.
Hundreds of bags of litter are collected each month – and a large amount of non-recyclable material collected is plastics. So in collaboration with artist Monique Fagan, they developed a line of waste-based crafts on sale on their Junk Evolution shop, and online too. I’m tempted.
